img_2475-copySymone Langston-Thomas is the counselor for the Minority Achievement Committee Scholars Program. 

The primary purpose of the Columbia Public Schools program is to increase the number of historically under represented minority students in the school system’s most rigorous course work, honors and advanced placement classes. 

Participants are taught how to set personal goals and manage their time wisely as well as how to be community leaders and develop study and character-building skills. At the high school level, MAC counselors take students on college tours and help them complete college applications and locate scholarships and financial aid. Tutoring and mentoring partnerships are also available to members.

Thomas graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1992 and was a home school communicator at Hickman High School from 1993 until two years ago, when she became a guidance counselor. She has a master’s degree in counseling from Stephens College.
